Sierra Hull returns to Chicago to play the Old Town School of Folk Music this Thursday night with special guest Jodee Lewis. After making her Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 10, the Tennessee-bred virtuoso mandolinist played Carnegie Hall at age 12, then landed a deal with Rounder Records just a year later. Now 28-years-old, Hull is releasing her fourth full-length album on February 28th, 25 Trips.
Hull took a few minutes out of her busy tour to chat with Bluegrass Chicago:
BC: What’s your most memorable moment moment from a Chicago gig?
Hull: The very first time I ever flew on an airplane was to Chicago! I was 12 years old and IBMA asked me to co-host the Discover Bluegrass DVD – an educational documentary that was used in schools to help educate kids about Bluegrass music.
What’s your favorite local spot?
We’ve hit up Burritos Juarez near the airport so many times over the last few years! Love the salsa!
Any words of advice to our Chicago community of bluegrass musicians and bluegrass music lovers?
Continue to support the wonderful musicians around you if you can! It’s an amazing thing to be able to do what you love for a living as a musician, but it’s only possible by having fans that want to listen and buy tickets to shows. I’m always grateful for the support when I come to Chicago.
Listen to “Middle of the Woods” off of 25 Trips!
