Vince Herman and Drew Emmitt return to Chicago on their Duo tour this Saturday, February 29th, at City Winery. Drew Emmitt is an American mandolinist, guitarist, fiddle player, occasional flutist, and singer, and Vince Herman is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter, both well known for being two of the founding members of Leftover Salmon.
The Duo first came together on a late October evening when Vince Herman wandered into the Walrus Saloon in Boulder, Colorado, drawn in by a sign that read “Bluegrass Music Here Tonight.” There he met Drew Emmitt, who’s band was playing that evening. The two have been reshaping the musical landscape together since that day. Together, they founded Leftover Salmon on New Year’s Eve 30 years ago, heavily influenced by the progressive bluegrass of that time. Since then, Leftover Salmon has experimented with many disparate musical styles and taken that progressive bluegrass sound to another level that is uniquely theirs.
Vince and Drew are stopping in Chicago this week for a rare run of acoustic shows performed in intimate settings to celebrate over thirty years of music and friendship. Expect to enjoy a journey through the pair’s long history touching on all realms of their musical catalog.
When asked for a few of his favorite memories of Chicago, Vince replied with this video greeting for Bluegrass Chicago viewers to enjoy:
Also, if you were lucky enough to be celebrating with Leftover Salmon back on New Year’s Eve 2015 here in Chicago at the Vic Theater, you might remember this. For the rest of us, we get to watch this great throwback video of Drew and Vince performing with Sam Bush on the band’s 25th Anniversary:
